COWARDICE

Can't remember how many times,
One million thoughts - no reason or rhyme,
When fear of rejection is mistaken for strength of will,
As weakness is lauded as bravery - the bitterest pill,
Regret and tears are the hardest to hide,
Drowning in despair whilst stemming that tide,
Inner battles, wars and strife,
Covered over in another outward life,
Every day and every night.

LONELY

Life is a struggle for her,
One day at a time,
Never the twain shall meet,
Ever seeking and not finding her rhyme,
Laying down her dreams every night,
Yet in hope of company so very right.

SHE LOOKS INTO A MIRROR

She looks into a mirror,
But doesn't recognize the face,
She sits aside a locked door,
But it feels like outer space,
She cracks a forced smile,
But all they see is a frown.

She looks into a mirror,
But doesn't recognize the face,
She cries a little, a tear streams down a cheek,
But not a person asks what it is she seeks,
She hopes for a new sunrise,
But daily her confidence dies.

She looks into a mirror,
But doesn't recognize the face,
She wants someone to hold her hand,
But they are elusive as drifting sand,
She steadies herself for another day,
But her heart is so fragile, come what may.

She looks into a mirror,
But doesn't recognize the face,
All is not as it appears in her lonely place.

TO EMBRACE YOU

She screams in utter silence,
And pleads in sheer quiet,
She lives in a twilight existence,
She knows that I lie not.

Nobody can hear her,
And no soul can discern,
She's a mystery enshrined in verse,
Her secret most will never learn.

All she wants is to make her entrance,
To break her outward shackles,
Unfettered at last from lifelong interference,
Alive truly at last, her pretense a dying debacle.

If you can see, feel, hear - then maybe somehow,
You might sense the angst in her brow,
Awaiting the freedom,
To embrace you.

YOU WON'T SEE HER CRY

You won't see her cry,
Unless you can read her soul,
You won't see her cry,
As she hides in her other role,
You won't see her cry,
As she begins to sob and crack,
You won't see her cry,
Dwelling in her prison black,
You won't see her cry,
Her visage never an eye has seen,
You won't see her cry,
As darkness closes in on her dream,
You won't see her cry,
Her life is built on many a sigh,
You won't see her cry,
You'll never see that dew drop in the corner of her eye.

OPEN SECRET

She hides behind words,
A two edged sword.
Her mask oft comes to the fore,
Her form hidden behind a locked door.
She teases and hints with subtle prose,
Always wrestling her demons does she suppose.
All is never what you merely see,
The truth lies hidden way beneath.
Her pain is perchance beyond perception,
Therein lies the guile of her forced deception.
Until the day she can escape her endless upset,
She'll keep in her heart her open secret.

THOSE WHO DO NOT LEAP

I see you flying,
Your wings unfurled.
I see you smiling,
Enjoying your new world.
I see you at peace,
In your new life.
I see your angst has ceased,
As you go on and strive.

Please spare a thought for those,
Who do not go on.
Please feel for those,
Who still carry their burden.
Please raise a glass for those,
Who hide so very deep.
And cry for those,
Those who do not leap.
